Descubrimos al fin la Sección Oficial de Berlinale a competición con caras conocidas y alguna sorpresa para esta edición número 73 que dará comienzo el próximo 16 de febrero y en la que apuestan por el cine documental. Una película española ha sido la primera anunciada para Berlinale Competition. Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren competirá con su debut 20.000 especies de abejas [trailer], primera vez que confían en una ópera prima española rodada por una mujer. No es el único debut que ha llegado a primera línea de competición, también encontraremos a Giacomo Abbruzzese con Disco Boy y Celine Song que nos mostrará Past Lives [trailer].
Philippe Garrel compite una vez más en Berlinale tras La sal de las lágrimas con Le grand chariot (The Plough), y no será el único nombre recurrente; le sigue lo nuevo del director Zhang Lu que vuelve tras Fukuoka con Bai Ta Zhi Guang (The Sadowless Tower); una voz recurrente del cine alemán, Margarethe von Trotta, que compite con Ingeborg Bachmann — Journey to the Dessert; Emily Atef, que sedujo con su 3 días en Quiberón y vuelve a las historias intimistas en Someday We’ll Tell Each Other Everything. Premiada como mejor directora en la edición de 2019, Angela Schanelec vuelve con Music, algo que ha ocurrido en más ocasiones con el siempre apreciado Christian Petzold, que triunfó con Bárbara y Ondina. Un amor para siempre y que regresa con Roter Himmel. Otro director que ha conocido distintas secciones del festival aparece por primera vez en la lucha por el Oso de plata con Manodrome, la primera incursión norteamericana de John Trengove (La herida).
También encontramos al director alemán Christoph Hochhäusler, que se estrena en Berlín con Bis ans Ende der Nacht (Till the End of the Night). El canadiense Matt Johnson, al que conocemos por The Dirties vuelve a su irreverencia con BlackBerry. Desde Australia nos llega Limbo, lo nuevo de Ivan Sen tras ver su Mystery Road convertida en serie de TV; así como el nuevo largometraje de un veterano como Rolf de Heer, que con títulos a sus espaldas como Bad Boy Bubby o El rastro vuelve con The Survival of Kindness [trailer]; João Canijo, por otro lado, se impone con Mal viver (Bad Living) [trailer], y no es su única aparición en el festival, ya que Viver mal (Living Bad) [trailer] formará parte de la sección Encounters. Una directora que armó revuelo con su debut en la ficción, Lila Avilés (La camarista) volverá a remover conciencias con Tótem.
Pese a su anuncio de apoyo al documental, solo uno de ellos se ha colado en la sección oficial, Sur l’Adamant de un autor ya consolidado, Nicolas Philibert [trailer], como también ha sido una película de animación la elegida para multiplicar géneros con un clásico como Makoto Shinkai que presentará Suzume [trailer] o Liu Jian que se incluye a la lista en el último momento con Art College 1994.
Esto es lo que dará de sí Berlinale Competition, pero muchas son las secciones interesantes del festival, como Encounters donde destacan Samsara de Lois Patiño, que el año pasado fue galardonado con su cortometraje El sembrador de estrellas, el documental de Tatiana Huezo El eco o la enésima visita de Hong Sang-soo, que presenta in water.
